Mystery Directors of LifeSIGNS
Have you noticed that the Trustees and other members of the Management Committee don’t have last names? Just who are these mystery people, and why do they hide their real names?
The fact is, our Trustees and all our Directors are available to be contacted. As Directors, we are in constant touch with one another, by email, snail mail, and phone, and we often meet up in real-life too.
But there’s a reason why we don’t publish the surnames of our Management Committee, or any of our members.
We believe that members and Directors alike deserve the same amount of respect, and we totally and completely respect the rights of our members to privacy! Our members give us so much support, and a great deal of content for our website and Newsletter, yet a certain need for privacy is required – after all, we’re dealing with the sensitive subjects of mental health and self-injury.
Because everything on the Internet is, in general, available forever, it’s impossible to delete or retract information. Ten years from now, your new employer may Google your full name to find out about you, and you can bet that your Live Journal and your You Tube videos will pop up!
At LifeSIGNS, we want to protect the privacy of our members forever, and so no one uses their last name at all.
I also believe that it’s friendlier; we all get to call each other by our forenames without having to worry about anything else, such as if a person is Miss, Ms or Mrs!
Personally, I also like being the only ‘single named’ person at conferences!
While everyone else is swanning round with their name-card filled with Dr. So-and-so and all their PhD, BSc, PPK, SWAT letters after their names, my name-card just says “Wedge, from LifeSIGNS” – it’s simple and it’s friendly.
Oh, OK, I suppose I had better say something about my own name… I’ve never made this 100% clear, but I suppose it’s time to come clean.
My name is Wedge – it really is. I do have other names in this life, many in fact, but from a legal and moral and correct stand-point, my name actually Wedge.
Where does it come from? How is this possible? Well, lot’s of things are possible in this world; consider that ‘Wedge’ is a popular enough surname, especially further up North, and surnames often become forenames over time.
I shan’t bore you with the details of where my name came from exactly, but it’s a personal story that amuses me to this day, and I’m confident that I shall be called Wedge until the end of time; it’s the way things are meant to be for me.
You can view all the Directors, their NAMES and their email addresses on the Directors page.
