LifeSIGNS: New Directors

I’m sure you’ve all noted that LifeSIGNS has gone through a small evolution this summer, we’ve lost some Directors, and gained some new ones, it wasn’t a painful transition, although it was sad to see people go.

LifeSIGNS is an organisation, meaning that it is greater than the people who make up it’s parts; LifeSIGNS will continue, grow, develop and change, even as the Directors grow, develop, leave and return.

I hope that one day, LifeSIGNS will be the primary SI support organisation, when people think of self injury, I want their next thought to be ‘LifeSIGNS’. I want LifeSIGNS to be the principle SI Awareness organisation, working hand in hand with other organisations to raise awareness, increase understanding and foster an environment within the Health Care Industry that is understanding and considerate.

Of course, other Directors may have other dreams for LifeSIGNS, and those aims and objectives are just as valid as mine.

But LifeSIGNS will always be person-centred in my mind, LifeSIGNS will always be lead by people who have experience of self injury, and who have experienced the negatives and the positives of SI. So LifeSIGNS will always have a dialogue with other people who use SI, and I hope that through honest communication, we can reduce the need for SI.

I’m not saying that LifeSIGNS ‘speaks for self injurers’ nor am I saying that LifeSIGNS ‘helps people’, because I’m not sure we do.

But, I’m looking forward, always forward, and I hope you are too.
