Ambitions for 2006

Ambitions for 2006

Ambitions - a man rock climbing

It’s the New Year, and New Year can be thought of as a fresh start.

How ever you felt about your life in 2005, it is now behind you, and 2006 is ahead of you.

Now is a great time to look back and consider what you’ve learned, how you’ve grown, what’s happened around you and to you, and how you were as a person.  With these thoughts in mind, you can now consider how you would like to be as a person, in 2006.

No one is in control of everything; no one can plan how everything should turn out, but every one of us can learn from our pasts and prepare for the future.

Looking ahead, we might want to meditate on how the last year has treated us, and how we have treated other people.  If you find that people have treated you in a way that you’re not happy with, then it’s a good time to think about how you will respond to them if they do it again. How can you let them know that you’d like to be treated better? How can you let them know that you’d them to be more considerate of you?

A good way is to be more considerate of them first! Why not start the year by being more involved with how other people are feeling and what they’re doing?

By showing more interest in the welfare of our loved ones, we can create stronger relationships, and can cultivate more thoughtfulness from those people around us.

If you look back at 2005 and it seems to have flown by, have a think about what you achieved during the year. What new things did you get up to? What new places did you visit? What new experiences have you got?

Maybe you’ll want to do more in 2006. Perhaps you’d like more friends, more social activities, more exciting happenings!

What can you do to get to know more people? How can you meet more people during your average week?

Could you join a Martial Arts class? You’ll learn a valuable defence system, become fitter and healthier, and meet interesting people who can help and support you as you learn Martial Arts.

What about a sports club or after-school sports team?

Team sports can be a great way to meet people and have a good time.

Not feeling so sporty? Well your Library or Local Bookstore may run a Reading Club, where a group of you could read the same book and then get together every week to talk about the story. You’ll soon make friends and talk about much more than books!  If your local book club don’t run a reading club, then speak to the manager and suggest that they do; you can set it up, advertise and run it! Be sure to have a member of staff available for safety and support!

The point is; do you want more things in your life during 2006?  New experiences can be yours, if you go out and find them.

On the other hand, some of us need less things in our lives!  If you’ve had a hectic year in 2005, with too much work and too much stress, then what are you going to do from now on to give yourself some space and peace?

Can you reduce any of your responsibilities, or get younger family members to take them over or at least help you with them?

Do you need more time away from your family or friends? Would you like more time to read, more time in the bath?  What do you want less of and what do you want more of in 2006?

We can set ourselves goals and ambitions for 2006, and then keep tabs on how we’re doing. Maybe you can keep a diary, and every day or week, write about how your goals for 2006 are coming along.

Maybe you can put post-it notes on your bedroom wall with your plans and ambitions, so that you’re reminded everyday of what you want to do and who you want to be.
