Self Harm in Holloway – The Independant 16th Jan 2005
A frank account of the emotional distress sufferred by many of the inmates of Holloway Women’s Prison. Outlines the seriousness of self harm as aproblem in this type of environment. A few glimmers of hope shine through though in the form of humane and thoughtful treatment. Small things such as allowing the women to use real mugs instead of plastic beakers in order to allow them to retain their dignity and a sense of control – something that is too often denied those who self injure as a way of coping.
